Virginia Staudt Sexton was born as Virginia Staudt on August 30, 1916 in New York City. In 1936 she graduated cum laude with a B.S. in classics from Hunter College of CUNY. Staudt taught elementary school then returned to school earning a Masters in 1941, and completed a Ph.D. in experimental psychology at Fordham in 1946.
